Volkswagen has announced a new warranty for the 2018 Tiguan and Atlas that will give both vehicles bumper-to-bumper coverage for 6 years or 72,000 miles, whichever comes first.
This is one of the best warranties in the industry, beating out most other bumper-to-bumper warranties that only cover the first 3 years or 36,000 miles, and the VW warranty is fully transferrable, which means it’s available to used Tiguan and Atlas buyers.
Hyundai and Kia currently offer the longest warranties at 5 years or 60,000 miles, with a 100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty that goes down to 60,000 if transferred. The transferrable Tiguan and Atlas warranty gives Volkswagen a leg up over the competition in the growing crossover SUV segment.
The CEO of Volkswagen Group America, Hinrich J. Woebcken, said that VW is confident in the quality of their vehicles and that they want customers to be confident in their purchase. Woebcken went on to say that the company believes “this warranty will lead to a reduced cost of ownership for Volkswagen owners.”
With this new warranty, Volkswagen doubles the previous length of the Tiguan’s warranty, which will still be the warranty time for its non-SUV vehicles. The Atlas is new to the lineup. The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan was previewed earlier this year and was completely redesigned for the new model year to offer more space as well as more features meant to appeal to American buyers. The Atlas is a full-size SUV with three rows of seating that will appeal to large families with its abundant cargo space and comfortable cabin.
Volkswagen has been very open about its attempts to win back the trust and loyalty of its customers after last year’s emissions scandal, and this unbeatable warranty is a step in that direction.
